Tips for Getting Rid of Pet Hair
Assuming that you already have a reliable vacuum that will allow you to clean pet hair, here are other things that you can also do to get rid of the latter:
- One of the simplest solutions is to train your pet in the areas where they should be. As much as possible, keep them out of the furniture or area rugs. Give them their own private space, in an area where there is no high foot traffic and easy to clean.
- Running a humidifier is another solution that will work. It will not only soothe skin dryness and make you feel more comfortable, but it will also lessen the likelihood the pet hairs will cling to the surfaces.
- If you are dealing with pet hair on non-upholstered surfaces, such as glass and laminate, the best thing to do is to use a microfiber cloth. The latter comes with a micro-static charge, which will let the pet hair cling.
- Inflating a balloon is another trick that could work, although it may seem funny for many. All that you have to do is inflate a balloon. Once it is ready, rub it on the furniture or any surface with pet hair. This will be effective because of its static charge.

Hello ,
I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!
I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).
I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?
Keep up the good work on your blog.

I used to have a good vacuum that picked up everything no problem. Then it died. So I picked up this el cheapo Dirt Devil ~$40 . I figured, why would you spend a lot of money, it’s just a vacuum… what? Wrong. It sucks. There’s hair from my two cats all over the carpet (look away, PRR, look away!).
At fist I thought it was stains, but today when I ran the carpet cleaner over them, it’s mostly black cat hair. At least the steamer will ball it up into big pieces that I can pick up, but I don’t want to run the steamer every few days or anything. So, I need a decent vacuum that is good with pet hair, for, if not cheap, then at least not boggle-the-mind expensive.

I had a Bissel pet hair one which I loved but then I dropped it and it broke. I just bought a Shark and Target and it’s great – except I got grossed out by how much it picked up from a carpet I thought was semi-clean. It was around $150 and worth every penny as it works when you’re on the edges of the carpet and the hardwood – it doesn’t lose suction.

I got a Vax Bagless Zen VCZPH1600 this year. $300. It might be a Godfreys exclusive brand, I got mine from eBay. Couldn’t afford any Dyson / Miele model recommended for pet hair which seemed to be $800+ range.
This one has the powerhead that has the extra motor/suction with the rotated nylon bristles to lift hair from the carpet (rather than relying on suction alone). Also comes with a small attachment.. which I will call a turbo wand for lack of the correct name coming to me.. which you can use on upholstery.
Seems to do the job well. As it’s bagless when emptying I see lots of pet hair. Previous vacuum I had that was a non-powerhead non-bristles did effectively nothing to lift hair from carpet.
As it’s only 7 months old and I don’t use it more than once a week can’t comment on the durability or anything, but otherwise am happy with it (can’t afford the fancy models which I understand are the best).

I also bought a Miele, the Cat and Dog. It’s like a revelation. They had a promotion on at the time for five year warranties, which says enough for me about their confidence in its longevity. It was about $700, which sounds a bit insane but it’s not only amazing but also fun(?!) to vacuum with, and I’m sure it will last for…ever! It has a hard floor attachment, so I don’t even sweep anymore, just cruise around and vacuum everything up. Poof!
