Do vacuums work on hardwood floors? The best vacuum for hardwood floors can vary by type. There are many powerful robots, uprights, canisters, stick, or even handheld vacuums that can handle messes on hardwood floors. Whatever you buy, make sure that there is a switch to turn off the brush roller. Over time, the brush will damage hardwood floors.
You don’t need anything special to get dust, hair, crumbs, or anything else off your wood, tile, or laminate floors. Just look for a model that lets you switch off the spinning brush roll, to avoid scattering debris or possibly damaging sensitive flooring. And before buying one vacuum cleaner for hardwood, you’ve got to set a budget so that you’ll be able to pinpoint exactly what variant you want.

Best Vacuum For Not Scratching Hardwood Floors
Nothing removes dirt and fine debris from the cracks and crevices of a wood floor like a good vacuum cleaner. Here the list best vacuum for hardwood floors that won’t scratch!
Which Shark is best for hardwood floors? Shark Navigator NV356E performed very well on hardwood floors—plus area rugs and carpets, too. Most people have a combination of rugs and bare floors in their home, so it’s best to get a vacuum that can take care of both. We prioritized this adaptability in our search for overall best vacuums for hardwood floors. We also prioritized value, suction power, reliability, and versatile attachments for corners and crevices.
The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Pro vacuum is a great machine for most homes and needs. This machine is designed to be lightweight when you need to carry it and get a deep-down clean at the same time. One of the ways the machine stays light is by allowing itself to “Lift-Away” from the base, by that I mean push a button on the side and it pops off the floor head, becoming a handheld canister.
The most important feature for vacuuming hardwood floors is a spinning brush roll that you can turn off to eliminate any chance of sending big crumbs flying across the room or even damaging the finish on certain types of flooring. On the Navigator Lift-Away, you turn the brush roll off with an easy flick of the power switch located behind the canister and turn it back on just as easily for cleaning carpets.
Bissell Hard Floor Expert (Best vacuum for hardwood floors under $200)
Bissell 1547 is designed to clean fine dust that clings to your flat surface floor like hardwood floors, linoleum tiles, ceramic tiles, etc… Some have said they wished it was motorized. If you need a motorized brush for your hardwood floors you have other issues. Maybe a wet mop is a solution to your problems.
The machine is well built and very light and so quiet. There is this soft brush turbine tool that spins purely on suction power. The soft brush is supposed to agitate the fine dust on the floor and then suck it into the canister. If users have the hard floor attachment setup on the vacuum, a brushroll will spin, helping to lift dirt and debris as it sucks it up. This process also helps avoid not scratching hardwood floors as the bristles on the brush are soft.
Thanks to two different floor cleaning nozzles and additional cleaning attachments, Bissell 1547 cleans not only bare floors but also low-pile carpets, upholstery, stairs and other surfaces from the floor to the ceiling. Only weighing in at 9.3 pounds, this Bissell vacuum is easy to move around. Therefore, users have more freedom to relocate the unit between cleanings, making cleaning more areas of the house much simpler.
The wand is extendable making it a joy to use this thing. The angle at which the brush sits on the floor versus the handle that you are holding on to makes it a pleasant experience to use this thing. When you put the brush on the floor and turn it on you can feel the suction pulling the nozzle to the floor while the brush is spinning fast.
As you glide over the floor and put your feet on the cleaned surface you can feel your feet stick to the floor, it’s that clean! If for some reason the brush stops spinning, take a look at the brush, there might be hair or something hindering the rotation. Clear the debris and start again. The nozzle swivels to get into uncanny corners.
Eureka NEN110A (Best vacuum for hardwood floors under $100)
Eureka Whirlwind NEN110A is suitable for bare floors and low- and medium-pile carpets. It is very affordable, lightweight vacuum cleaner, intended for smaller homes and apartments. This little vacuum has super powerful suction and is really lightweight.
I would only recommend it for hard floors. It has all the hard floors so this vacuum is perfect. I really don’t have to replace the bag very often either, which is surprising since it seems small.
Due to its design, it is very easy to vacuum underneath furniture. Despite this being a cheaper vacuum, the suction is deemed powerful by most users. The hose is super long which is a plus, compare to Dyson, Meile, Rainbow, Hoover, etc, this vacuum has as good of suction as the best of them.
Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Which Dyson cordless is best for hardwood floors? The Dyson V8 Absolute works excellent on both carpets and wooden flooring. The direct-drive cleaner head is 150% more powerful than the V6, and the soft roller cleaner head lifts large debris and fine dust from hardwood floors, leaving a clean and polished look. This also makes it ideal for cleaning Berber carpets.
It is great! It easily maneuvers through the house between rugs and hardwood floors. I love it and being cordless you don’t have to stop after every room to unplug it, it saves time. As far as pickup power I was very impressed in general. With the standard motorhead cleaner head, It did fantastic with all sizes of debris on carpet and did just as well with fine debris on hard floors.
However, when vacuuming hard floors with larger debris you really need the Absolute version which comes with the soft brush or Fluffy cleaner head, because the standard motorhead really isn’t built for that. The soft brush is made for hard floors and it does an amazing job with everything from fine dust to large debris. So as far as pickup ability I give it super high marks as long as you are using the best cleaner head for the job.
On low power, The Dyson V8 was able to pick up the debris from the 1/8” crevices on our crevice pickup test which is something not many vacuums can do. So even on low power, the Dyson v8 has a lot of pickup power. On high power, the airflow jumped to 1752 fpm measured at the wand. This is pretty high as demonstrated by it being able to pick up not just the debris from the 1/8” crevice but the much harder to get ¼” crevice in just 3 passes, again very few vacuums on the market can do that.
Since I believe that the V8 performance on low power is adequate for most jobs it means that the most common usage, low power with the cleaner head attached will net you an average of 33.5 minutes of trigger pressing per battery cycle. You could time how long it takes you to vacuum your house if you are wondering if this will work for you as a replacement for an upright vacuum.
As far as weight and maneuverability the Dyson v8 Absolute is better than any cordless I have tired. Although the new V10 is only a few ounces heavier I like the feel of the V8 better. Maybe its because it’s more compact, but in any case, I actually prefer vacuuming with the V8 over the V10, even though they are very close to being the same experience. The bin is about 16 oz or 2 cups, which is decent for a cordless vacuum, but not as good at the 3 cups on the V10.
So yeah I love the V8 and think it is superior to any cordless I have tested so far with the exception of the V10. I would say that getting the soft brush or fluffy with the V8 Absolute is a must especially if you have hard floors.
eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S (Slim), Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S is an excellent choice if you want the robot vacuum cleaning ability and advanced features of a Roomba – with a budget under $250.
On hardwood floors the Eufy 11s is that it cleans remarkably well, I was particularly impressed with the Eufys pickup especially for a budget robot vacuum. It has a lot of power, we measured its airflow at 15 cfm on high and 10 cfm on low which was quite a bit more than its main competitor the Deebot N79s and it really showed on things like the crevice pickup test where it did as good or better than robot vacuums twice its price.
Also with the deep clean test were we rub sand into medium pile carpet and weigh the dust bin before and after, it scored 68%, which again beat the Deebot n79s and the Ilife by quite a bit.
It comes to what matters – keeping your floors spotless – many customers say they’d actually prefer the eufy RoboVac 11S over a Roomba any day. It’s that good. In this model, eufy has boosted the suction power to ensure the vacuum can easily pick up dirt and pet hair on hard flooring and low-pile carpeting.
The eufy RoboVac 11S is a quiet and affordable high-powered robot vacuum cleaner that handles all kinds of dirt including pet hair with ease. Great for: Low-pile carpets, Vinyl, Hardwood, Tile, Linoleum and Pet hair. The Eufy 11s is one of the quietest robots I have personally ever tested.

Hoover FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner
Can you use a Hoover FloorMate on hardwood floors? Maintaining wood floors like tile or hardwood is a lot of work. First, you have to sweep regularly using a broom or vacuum cleaner. Second, on high traffic areas like the kitchen where there is a lot of grease residue you’ll have to get down on your knees to scrub off residue. With the Dual Tank Technology and specialty brushes for wood, tile & grout you can have a deluxe clean anywhere you need it only with Hoover FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner.
This machine is designed to deep clean hard floors. It doesn’t have any vacuum. So you’ll have to buy an upright or a stick vacuum to do the sweeping for you but I think the absence of a vacuum is a good thing. It comes with the same 4 brush system as the older FloorMate. But this time Hoover also provides a softer brush for more delicate surfaces like hardwood or laminate.
The Hoover Floormate can be used with water and a special hard floor cleaning solution from Hoover, or you can even use vinegar and other homemade cleaning solutions. It is a matter of personal preference. However, the only chemical recommended for use with the appliance is the Hoover cleaning solution.

After sweeping and quickly dusting the floor, I am capable of completing the cleaning exercise in little time, with very little physical effort and the ultimate end is a gleaming floor surface. It has often allowed me to apply as much of the cleaning solution as I desire in any area where I feel more cleaning is needed. The water suction power is just amazing.
Getting pet hair off hardwood is easy peasy. When you find best vacuum for hardwood floors you need to be more concerned about weight, maneuverability, and a brush roller that you can turn off. What makes a good hardwood vacuum? First off, you’ll need a vacuum that has good enough suction to pick up small debris like dust bunnies and larger debris like crushed biscuits or cheerios.
Second, it has to be light enough to carry around the house. Hardwood does not require any deep cleaning like carpet so you don’t need a hulking upright vacuum that weighs over 20 pounds. In fact, a cordless stick vacuum may be enough to fill your need if your home is small enough. Third, it has to be versatile enough to be able to reach nooks and crannies and be capable of cleaning above the floor areas like ceiling vents, air conditioning vents, upholstery and such.
